Exterior

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R is a stunning sports coupe that demands attention from onlookers. The front of the car features the AMG Panamericana grille that has now become a signature element of the GT lineup. The grille has been made larger than before with vertical slats that make the front of the vehicle more striking and aggressive than before.

The air dam below the grille is now narrower, however, the air intakes have increased in size to make the engine cooling function more efficient. The long hood of the vehicle is very muscular, thanks to the presence of sharp lines and curves that also add to the aerodynamics of the vehicle.

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R has been tested in the wind tunnel to demonstrate its aerodynamic capabilities. The extent to which Mercedes has tested the 2018 GT R in the wind tunnel is how aircrafts are commonly tested to achieve superior aerodynamics.

In this test, a vehicle is mounted through a special machine called “Force Balance” into a long tunnel where a vehicle is tested for agility and aerodynamics by exposing it to air flowing from a number of fans in the tunnel at high speed.

After this extensive testing, the A-wing has been redesigned to improve the air flow as well as to enhance the downforce, while an active rear spoiler has been added to help the vehicle attain greater stability at high speeds.

The wheelbase of the vehicle has been increased to ensure that the wider and muscular fenders look well-proportioned with the overall design. The agile stance of the vehicle has been complemented by the 19-inch forged titanium 10-spoke wheels in the front and 20-inch forged titanium 10-spoke wheels in the rear.

The side skirts of the coupe have been redesigned while the side strakes have been enlarged to further improve the aerodynamics of the coupe. The roof of the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R has been made from carbon fiber to give it a striking appearance, reduce the weight of the vehicle and to lower the overall center of gravity for better handling.

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R is available in 12 colors including the AMG Green Hell Magno, Jupiter Red and AMG Solarbeam Yellow metallic exclusive colors.
