These alarming numbers have prompted the authorities to implement the most needed changes in traffic rules regarding speed of the vehicles.<\/p>\n

Maximum Speed Limit to be decreased<\/h2>\n

Major General Mohammed Said Al Zafin who is the Head of Federal Traffic Council and commander in chief of the Dubai Police Operational Affairs stated that the results of last three years in terms of the number of accidents and their reasons were observed. In the light of these observations, it is decided that the maximum speed limits will be dropped to 130km\/hr<\/em>.<\/p>\n

While analyzing the stats of the last year, he told that the highway death toll was up to 40%. 25% of the deaths were caused in the run-over accidents while the trucks accounted for 15% of the deaths.<\/em> The death toll also included 5% of deaths in motorcycle accidents. The maximum 70% of the deaths were caused by the over-speeding vehicles<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The amendments in the traffic rules in UAE are always made keeping in contention all the important aspects including the ease of the motorists and peak hours of traffic. The Federal Traffic Council has announced strict penalties for the drivers violating the maximum speed limit up to 50%<\/strong> and following these charges; the vehicles will also get seized. Along with that, the driver found guilty of over-speeding will also face the charge of putting the lives of other people in danger.<\/p>\n

Important Recommendations of the Council<\/h2>\n

One of the important recommendations of the Council was to put the radar on every 2km distance<\/strong> for better monitoring of the speeds of vehicles. Another recommendation was to install the trucks on the road which could figure out the driving hours of truckers to minimize their fatigue; often playing a part in fatal accidents.<\/p>\n

To prevent the overcrowding of vehicles especially in the peak hours, a recommendation was made to divide the peak hours into two categories. One of that will be from 7AM to 2PM and the other will be from 7:30 PM to 2:30 PM. In this way the school timings starting from 8:00 AM will be easily avoided.<\/p>\n
